Pagan and folk metal are often associated with Europe, but that would be to ignore the cultural wealth of other continents. Cemican immerses us in the pre-Columbian period with the help of ancient instruments, their knowledge of Nahuatl, and lessons learned during a stay with a huichole tribe. The Mexican band has succeeded in fusing these elements with a coercive folk metal honoring a war-like musical tradition willingly used to arouse fear in the enemy. At both Wacken and Download 2018, Cemican stood out with some impressive costumes and a colorful mise-en-scène of their tracks. It is now (the?) Cernunnos' turn to welcome these Aztec deities turned musicians, who will tell us the ancestral legends of their country to the sound of the whistles of death.
